4th meeting of the Uzbekistan – EU Sub-Committee on Development Cooperation

The 4th meeting of Uzbekistan – European Union Sub-Committee on Development Cooperation was organized by the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade together with the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan.

According to Uzbekistan MIFT, the event with the participation of representatives of the European Commission, the Delegation and the embassies of the EU member states in Uzbekistan, as well as relevant ministries and agencies, was co-chaired by the Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Shukhrat Vafayev and Head of Unit of the European Commission Sarah Rinaldi.

The key issues on the agenda of the meeting were the prospects and directions for further bilateral financial and technical cooperation with the European Commission within the framework of the new program cycle for 2021-2027.

The parties discussed the implementation of projects and activities in the spheres of support for agriculture and green growth, improving the efficiency of management and digitalization, including judicial, transport and logistics systems, improving the investment climate, as well as the socio-economic development of the Aral Sea region.

The European side announced the intention of the European Commission to allocate targeted grants for Uzbekistan in the amount of 83 million euros for 2021-2024, as well as expand, together with the EU member states, within the framework of the Team Europe initiative, financial and technical cooperation for the development of the Aral Sea zone.

Following the talks, an agreement was reached on close interaction and joint work to accelerate and successfully implement joint initiatives within the framework of the new program cycle of the European Commission for 2021-2027.
