A proposal was made to open a UN Climate Change Regional Office in Tashkent

Minister of Natural Resources Aziz Abdukhakimov met with the Head of UNESCO Tashkent Office, UNESCO Representative in Uzbekistan Sara Noshadi, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

The parties discussed the issues of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Natural Resources and UNESCO in environmental education and natural heritage management. The importance of a phased transition to a green economy, the introduction of a digitalization system, environmental education and culture, capacity building of employees and specialists, and the use of foreign experience in this area were noted.

The issues of opening a UN Climate Change Regional Office in Tashkent, creating an innovative project of a cultural heritage park in the Aral Sea region, centers for visitors to cultural heritage sites, and developing strategically essential programs to prevent climate change were also discussed.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on joint holding in Samarkand this fall of the Fourteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP14).
