Abdulaziz Kamilov meets with Latvian FM

On February 8, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, who arrived in Tashkent on a working visit, Uzbekistan MFA reports.

The foreign ministers discussed a wide range of issues on the Uzbekistan-Latvia agenda, paying special attention to the prospects for the development of cooperation in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres.

The parties expressed their interest in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, intensifying political dialogue and enhancing scientific-humanitarian exchanges.

The need for expanding the contractual and legal framework of cooperation by speeding up the consideration of several draft documents, including an Intergovernmental agreement on organized recruitment and employment, as well as the protection of the rights of Uzbekistan’s citizens engaged in temporary labor activity in Latvia, was noted.

The Ministers stressed the importance of taking coordinated measures to increase mutual trade and diversify its structure. Proposals for further promotion of economic diplomacy, including through the implementation of joint investment projects and the organization of mutual trade missions, were considered.

The parties exchanged views on the current issues of international and regional policy.

At the meeting, a protocol was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia on cooperation and consultations.

Following the talks, a press conference was held for media representatives.
