Abdulaziz Kamilov meets with U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation

On 2 May 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov held talks with the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad, Uzbekistan MFA reports.

The current state and prospects of resolving the Afghan conflict, as well as mechanisms to facilitate this process were discussed during the conversation.

The U.S. Special Representative highly appreciated the comprehensive assistance provided by the Uzbek side under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Afghanistan.

The parties stressed their common interest in a peaceful, stable and sovereign Afghanistan. The urgency and importance of supporting a comprehensive political settlement by the parties concerned, which will put an end to the long-standing war in this country, was noted.

The parties agreed that there is no military solution to the conflict. Uzbekistan and the United States agreed to support inter-Afghan inclusive negotiations and work together on the initiatives that promote regional trade, investment and infrastructure projects, and accelerate Afghanistan’s integration into the regional process.
