Akmal Saidov holds a videoconference with Ryszard Komenda and Helena Fraser

A videoconference was organized between the Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov, the Head of the UN Human Rights Office for Central Asia Ryszard Komenda and the UN Resident Coordinator for the Republic of Uzbekistan Helena Fraser.

Issues related to protection of human rights in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic were discussed, in particular, measures taken by the government of Uzbekistan to reduce the inevitable consequences of the impact on human rights, especially on children, women, migrants and prisoners.

The parties discussed in detail the draft National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Human Rights, which was prepared as part of tasks defined in the Address of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Oliy Majlis. The document will become an important step towards ensuring human rights and freedoms within the framework of the effective implementation of the international obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan in human rights.

According to Uzbekistan NCHR, during the videoconference, the parties considered further steps to improve the draft National Strategy, as well as prepare recommendations of the Voluntary National Review of Uzbekistan on implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
