Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva has met with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong.
According to the upper house of parliament, the delegation was informed about the activities carried out by the state to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensure human rights and gender equality.
The IPU Secretary General highly appreciated the political, socio-economic reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan. He emphasized the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to adopt a special resolution of the UN General Assembly on increasing the role of parliaments in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring human rights at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.
Mr. Martin Chungong noted the relevance of the international forum being held in Bukhara on the global inter-parliamentary cooperation in achieving SDGs.
The parties discussed cooperation issues between Uzbekistan and IPU.
