Cooperation in improving ecosystems in the Aral Sea region discussed in Israel

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Israel held a virtual meeting with the Director of the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Noam Weisbrod, reports IA “Dunyo” correspondent.

The Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research( BIDR) specializes in the study of such areas as water resources management in arid areas, agriculture in desert zones, ecosystems, climate change and desertification processes. The Institute employs about 70 teachers and more than 250 graduate students and researchers.

The Israeli side expressed strong support in connection with the creation of the UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region, as well as the initiative voiced at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to declare the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies.

Noam Weisbrod noted the readiness to establish bilateral cooperation with relevant research organizations of Uzbekistan, including the implementation of research projects, training scientists in agriculture and water management, environmental protection and ecology.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on organizing regular online events with the participation of relevant ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan to saturate the bilateral agenda with specific and mutually beneficial proposals and initiatives.
