Cooperation with Qatar and Malaysia develops

The agreement, which is expected to be ratified by the Law “On ratification of the agreement on the establishment of a bilateral strategic partnership between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the State of Qatar (Tashkent, April 15, 2024)”, was signed by the Uzbekistan and Qatar FMs during the Second Foreign Ministerial Meeting of the Strategic Dialogue “Central Asia – Gulf Cooperation Council” April 15, 2024.

As it was noted at the meeting of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investment and Tourism, the Agreement aims at developing long-term, constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation in such vital areas as education and science, healthcare, culture, tourism, sports, as well as coordinating joint efforts to exchange experience in training and professional development in economics, management, diplomacy, and tourism.

The adoption of the law will contribute to bringing diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Qatar to the level of strategic partnership.

The Law “On ratification of the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of Malaysia on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters (Tashkent, June 8, 2023)” was considered at the meeting.

The contract specifies the grounds and conditions for the provision of legal assistance related to conducting investigative and other procedural actions in a criminal case. The form and content of the request, the distribution of costs associated with the execution, the grounds for refusal to provide legal assistance, and restrictions on the use of evidence obtained under the contract are being established.

The law strengthens the legal framework for relations with the Malaysian government regarding legal assistance in criminal matters.
