Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and the President of the Islamic Development Bank Bandar Hajjar discussed the current state of implementation of joint projects and initiatives, as well as the expansion of mutually beneficial partnerships, via videoconference, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.
According to Uzbekistan MIFT, during the dialogue, the leadership of the IDB noted the timeliness and effectiveness of measures to ensure the protection of public health and the preservation of economic activity undertaken in Uzbekistan under the leadership of the head of state and highly appreciated by the international community.
The sides considered the prerequisites for enhancing the IsDB investment portfolio in Uzbekistan through the development of new socially significant projects in education and health.
Practical issues related to the organization and holding of the 46th annual meeting of the IsDB Board of Governors in Uzbekistan this year were also discussed. The parties agreed to accelerate the formation of appropriate working groups to start working together to prepare for the meeting and develop a separate “road map”, including specific activities, deadlines and responsible performers.
The bank’s management is considering the prospects for organizing the visit of the IsDB President to Uzbekistan in June this year for a roadshow dedicated to the broad coverage of the upcoming meeting in the international media.
It is expected that the event will be attended by about 3 thousand representatives of 57 member countries of the bank, as well as international organizations and financial institutions.
During the talks, special attention was paid to the implementation of the project for the construction of the Mazar-i-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar trans-Afghan railway. The IsDB President confirmed the compliance of the project with the bank’s policy in the regional cooperation, aimed at increasing the connectivity of the economies of the region’s countries, integrating markets and reducing the cost of cargo transportation by enhancing and modernizing transport and logistics systems.
Following the talks, an agreement was reached on enhancing cooperation by mobilizing resources of the IsDB subsidiaries. The parties agreed to consider the possibility of opening a regional office of the IsDB in Uzbekistan as the epidemiological situation stabilizes.
