Dialogue with people to further strengthen

The Council of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting. It was led by the Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva.

Members of the Council discussed an action program on implementation of the priority tasks identified in the speech of the President of the country at the first meeting of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Address to Parliament, as well as the Senate’s work plan for the first half of 2020.

It was noted that the Address of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Oliy Majlis determined the strategic path of development of the country and is a guide to action to further deepen democratic reforms. It notes that democratic reforms are the only right way for Uzbekistan.

The Senate has been given important tasks at the new stage of the country’s development. The program of action defines the main directions for the rigorous, timely and high-quality implementation of these tasks. In particular, it envisages the improvement of lawmaking, control and analytical activities of the Senate, including the system of control over the effective implementation of the State budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

A periodic discussion of reports and information of the heads of ministries, agencies and heads of regions on implementation of laws, state and territorial programs, as well as the solution of pressing socio-economic issues at places is planned.

Further increase in the role of the Senate in development of relations between Uzbekistan and foreign countries, strengthening international relations and attraction of foreign investment, as well as development of inter-parliamentary relations are identified as one of the priority areas of activity of the upper house of parliament.

Chairmen of the Senate committees expressed their views and suggestions on the issues discussed.

Other issues related to powers of the Council of the Senate were also considered at the meeting.
