Discussion of interparliamentary cooperation

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva met with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Tulia Ackson in Geneva.

The parties discussed issues of strengthening relations with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and organizational issues on jointly held events.

It was especially noted that Uzbekistan became an integral part of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in a short time. A striking example is the joint holding of the International Parliamentary Forum on the Sustainable Development Goals in Bukhara and the 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament (14SWSP) in Tashkent.

Next year, the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be held in Uzbekistan at the initiative of the country’s President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Special attention was focused at the meeting on issues related to organizing and holding the 150th Assembly in Uzbekistan.

“We are glad that Uzbekistan is hosting this assembly. Your country deserves such an honor. I am ready to make every effort to ensure that the anniversary meeting in Tashkent becomes an unforgettable event in the history of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the entire global parliamentarism”, Tulia Ackson noted.

She also emphasized that, based on the results of this event, a corresponding document defining the medium and long-term priority directions of the parliamentary movement worldwide is planned.
