Conditions necessary to ensure access to justice for all citizens – members of multi-ethnic society of Uzbekistan were discussed during the roundtable discussion “Graz recommendations on access to justice and national minorities in Uzbekistan”.
The event was organized by the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Parliament, National Center for Human Rights together with the Supreme Court of the country, OSCE High Commissioner Office for National Minorities (OSCE HCNM) and OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.
The best practices will contribute to improving participants’ skills on equal access to justice through improving inter-ethnic relations in Uzbekistan, as well as the country’s legal framework for ensuring access to justice for ethnic groups.
Issues related to access to justice in the context of ethnic communities, such as consideration of inter-ethnic cases, representation of ethnic communities in the judicial system and law enforcement agencies, strategies to promote full equality in access to justice for all were considered at the event.
International experts, deputies of the Oliy Majlis, representatives of ministries and agencies, civil society institutions, as well as Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ Regional Office for Central Asia, EU Delegation in Tashkent, UNDP Office in Tashkent and diplomats attended the event.
