Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held virtual talks with Director-General of the World Trade Organization Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

The parties discussed the current state of the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO. The main attention was paid to the implementation of the urgent tasks outlined in the new road map for 2022, developed jointly with the Secretariat of the Organization to intensify the negotiation process.

The main topic of the talks was the preparation for the upcoming fifth meeting of the Working Group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.

The WTO leadership expressed its commitment to the full support of Uzbekistan and the intensification of cooperation for the prompt resolution of emerging issues.

The Uzbek side emphasized the priority given in the country to the issue of accession to the WTO. It was noted that this issue is one of the main tasks outlined in the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy for 2022-2026.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain a close and regular dialogue to speed up the resolution of the issues discussed.
