Inter-parliamentary cooperation issues are discussed in Riga

On January 14, 2020, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Kadambay Sultanov met with member of the Group for Development of Cooperation with the Parliament of Uzbekistan in the Saeima of Latvia Edmunds Teirumnieks, in Riga, Uzbekistan MFA reports.

Views were exchanged on prospects for further activation of inter-parliamentary cooperation. Results of the recent elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, which were observed by a number of Latvian Parliamentarians led by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Saeima of Latvia, Rihards Kols, were discussed at the meeting.

Edmunds Teirumnieks praised the high level organization and transparency of the voting process in Uzbekistan. He stated that this is certainly the result of large-scale reforms being implemented in the country. It was emphasized that Saeima attaches great importance to further development of inter-parliamentary contacts and interaction with the Oliy Majlis.

Latvian deputy also noted the importance of increasing cooperation at the regional level of the two countries. A proposal was made to work out the issue of establishing relations with Rezekne region in historical Latgale, which he represents in the Latvian Parliament.
