International roundtable discussion on women of Uzbekistan

On March 3, an international roundtable discussion was held on “Women in leadership positions: Achieving an equal future in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic”, aimed at strengthening the positive image of a woman leader in all spheres of the socio-political life of Uzbekistan and timed to coincide with the celebration of March 8 – International Women’s Day.

The event was organized by the National Commission for Gender Equality under the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the EBRD, the UNDP and the UNFPA, as well as other international organizations, accredited in Uzbekistan. It was attended by representatives of the upper house of parliament, ministries and agencies, international organizations and the media.

At the event, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the National Commission for Gender Equality of Uzbekistan and the EBRD.

The parties agreed to jointly address tasks in empowering women, increasing their level of economic wellbeing and ensuring gender equality.

Winners of the National Competition “Gender Equality Activist” were awarded.

The competition was attended by ministries, agencies and NGOs that have achieved high results in gender equality, come up with initiatives for the development of society, and protect the rights of women.
