On September 3, 2020, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev held talks with the Head of UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Deborah Lyons, via videoconference.
The sides discussed the efforts of Uzbekistan and UNAMA to resolve the Afghan crisis, as well as priority areas of cooperation in implementing various projects in Afghanistan.
The Head of UNAMA highly appreciated President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s policy on peaceful resolution of the Afghan crisis, as well as socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan. In particular, interest was expressed in projects for construction of railway tracks and new power lines in Afghanistan.
The importance of reducing the level of violence in the country as soon as possible in the context of the pandemic, as well as ensuring the key role of Afghan people in the political process, was noted.
Views were exchanged on providing full assistance to Afghanistan in launching inter-Afghan peace talks.
