On February 10, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani.

On behalf of the fraternal people of Afghanistan, President Ashraf Ghani expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for his full support in ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan and the economic reconstruction of this country.

The leaders noted with deep satisfaction the successful results of the first meeting of the trilateral working group on the promotion of the Trans-Afghan Transport Corridor project, which was attended by high representatives of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as leading international financial institutions.

The importance of starting the practical implementation of this project, including the preparation of technical documentation and implementation of construction activities was emphasized.

The Presidents agreed to join forces and accelerate the implementation of the project for the construction of a new Surkhan – Puli-Khumri transmission line. To this end, a bilateral mechanism will be established to coordinate the implementation of the planned work, with holding videoconferences every month.

The possibilities of enhancing Uzbekistan – Afghanistan multifaceted cooperation, including in the oil and gas industry, education and training of qualified Afghan personnel in technical specialties, were also considered.

Uzbekistan delegation’s participation in the festive events on the occasion of the 580th anniversary of Alisher Navoi’s birth, which will be held in March this year in Herat, has been agreed upon.
