Registan made of ... ice

The 26th International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival has opened in the Ice and Snow World theme park in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China.

One of the main attractions of the traditional festival is a model of Registan Square in Samarkand made of ice.

According to the organizers, 300 thousand cubic meters of ice and snow were used to build the snow city with an area of one million square meters.

The city is divided into nine main zones, which recreate the sights of 42 countries and 3 regions that are members of the Olympic Council of Asia.

Its design and construction included elements of the upcoming Asian Winter Games, which will begin in Harbin on February 7, 2025, and will be the first major international ice and snow event.

Visitors can see more than a thousand amazing, colorful, illuminated ice and snow sculptures, including art objects depicted in representative buildings of Asian countries. There is an opportunity for everyone to enjoy a variety of cultural events and winter entertainment.

This park was founded in 1999. In 2024, the ice city was visited by about 3 million people.
