Senate Chairperson meets with Ambassador Kelley E. Currie

On January 9, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva has met with the U.S. Representative at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Kelley Currie, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

Comprehensive information was provided on the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan to protect the interests of women, increase their role in the socio-political and economic life of Uzbekistan, on the activities of the Commission on Ensuring Gender Equality, as well as proposals for bilateral cooperation in this area.

Ambassador Kelley E. Currie expressed her gratitude to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis for promoting Uzbekistan – American relations in ensuring the protection of the rights and interests of women.

Giving a high assessment to the policy pursued by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, she noted the full support of the U.S. government for the efforts of Uzbekistan in ensuring gender equality, encouraging the wide involvement of women in the socio-political life of the country, promoting training programs for Afghan women in Uzbekistan.

She welcomed the creation of an informal platform for the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian States and noted with satisfaction the involvement of Afghanistan in this format.

Ambassador Kelley E. Currie said that within the framework of the C5+1 platform, a project to support women’s entrepreneurship was launched, which, first of all, will be implemented jointly with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. At the same time, the DFC is launching a project to improve the legal framework of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
