Senators hold virtual talks with ILO representatives

Members of the Senate Committee on Science, Education and Health of the Oliy Majlis has held a videconference with senior officials of the International Labour Organization.

Issues of preparing a national strategy for social protection, strengthening this sphere in Uzbekistan and the role of the parliament in this direction were discussed at the meeting.

ILO representatives were informed about measures taken in Uzbekistan to mitigate the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy and support families in need of social protection.

Special attention was paid to the activities of the parliament for protecting the interests of people in a pandemic. Information was provided about the adoption of a number of legislative acts aimed at countering the spread of coronavirus, expanding the powers of bodies supporting socially needy segments of the population.

Senators reaffirmed their readiness to further develop cooperation with ILO and participate in consistent implementation of recommendations of the UN statutory and treaty bodies.
