On August 6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov within the framework of the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Leaders.
The President of Uzbekistan sincerely congratulated Sadyr Zhaparov on his first participation in the Consultative Meeting and noted that this multilateral platform allows to jointly make decisions for the benefit of the entire region.
The implementation of the agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan on 11-12 March this year, as well as current issues of regional security was discussed at the meeting.
It was noted with satisfaction that since the beginning of the year, the trade turnover between the two countries has grown by almost 10 percent and exceeded $425 million. The practical implementation of joint projects in priority areas of the economy, including industry, agriculture, textile, machine-building and other sectors, has started. Active cultural-humanitarian exchanges and interregional contacts are supported.
Issues of interaction in the energy sector, in particular, the joint construction of the Kambarata-1 Hydroelectric Station, were also considered.
The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the strategic importance of the Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan – China railway project, noting the need for accelerating negotiations on its construction.
President of Kyrgyzstan expressed support for Uzbekistan’s practical efforts to strengthen fruitful mutually beneficial cooperation in the region. He noted that the initiatives of the Leader of Uzbekistan aimed at developing the connectivity of Central and South Asia meet the interests of the fraternal peoples of the region.
An agreement was reached to continue regular contacts at the highest level for the consistent development of cooperation in all spheres.
Views were exchanged on the current issues of the regional and international agenda.
