Shavkat Mirziyoyev receives EBRD delegation

On March 5, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, led by the President of this financial institution, Suma Chakrabarti.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan and EBRD renewed the partnership in 2017. During this period, a new country strategy of the bank and a joint roadmap were adopted and are being implemented.

The new investments reached 1.1 billion USD and have been directed to such priority sectors as energy, heat and water supply, communications, road and housing construction. At the same time, one third of all EBRD investments goes to support private sector initiatives.

In addition to a representative office in Tashkent, the bank has opened an office in Andijan, and plans to open it in Urgench by the end of the year.

The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the personal contribution and active efforts of Suma Chakrabarti in achieving the modern level of bilateral cooperation.

Priority areas of practical interaction for the long term have been substantively considered at the meeting.

The EBRD President confirmed the readiness of the leading global financial organization to continue its full support for the ongoing reforms program in Uzbekistan and to radically expand the partnership portfolio.

Special attention has been paid to the preparation and promotion of priority projects on modernizing the infrastructure, development of the banking sector, textile and other industries, small business initiatives.

Views were also exchanged on the schedule and agenda of joint events aimed at facilitating the attraction of direct investment, best practices, knowledge and technologies in the economy of the country.
