Tanzila Narbayeva meets with IPU Secretary General

On September 6, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong.

According to the upper chamber of the Parliament, the parties discussed priority issues of interaction between Uzbekistan and the IPU.

Mr. Martin Chungong praised the reforms carried out at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at further strengthening the role of parliament and political parties in deepening democratic reforms and modernizing the country. He expressed support for the policy of Uzbekistan in ensuring the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of women, strengthening their role in public and state.

As previously reported, the next Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament will be held in Uzbekistan in 2022. The parties agreed to establish close cooperation between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and the Secretariat of the IPU to hold the summit at the highest organizational and substantive level.

The Head of the Inter-Parliamentary Union confirmed the organization’s readiness to continue to provide all necessary assistance to the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan in the implementation of reforms to further strengthen the role of parliament in the country’s public life, address the most important socio-economic, political and legal tasks.
