The First Central Asia – China Foreign Ministers Meeting

On July 16, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov attended the First Central Asia – China MFA Meeting via videoconference.

The event was also attended by Foreign Ministers of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi, the Republic of Kazakhstan – Mukhtar Tleuberdi, the Kyrgyz Republic – Chingiz Aidarbekov, the Republic of Tajikistan – Sirodjiddin Muhriddin and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.

The parties discussed current issues of cooperation in prevention, forecasting, containment of the spread of coronavirus infection and mechanisms for ensuring sustainable growth of the economy and industrial capacity of Central Asian countries and China.

It was noted that it is necessary to establish regular interaction between medical specialists and specialized agencies of countries participating in this videoconference in order to improve the effectiveness of practical measures to counteract epidemiological threats of a cross-border nature.

The necessity of joining efforts in the current conditions to support mutual trade and ensure food security, accelerate the pace of digitalization of the economy, as well as formation of a diversified system of transport and transit routes was noted.

The Uzbek side proposed to jointly develop a comprehensive program to combat the pandemic and its consequences, including the above-mentioned areas of cooperation.

Participants focused on the importance of implementing specific innovative, infrastructure, transport, communication and energy projects to strengthen stability and increase wellbeing of peoples of Central Asia and China.

Views were also exchanged on strengthening regional security and stability, including rebuilding the socio-economic infrastructure of Afghanistan.
