The foreign Ministers of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan discussed a range of issues of bilateral cooperation at a meeting in Dushanbe

Yesterday, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and Sirojiddin Muhriddin held political consultations on the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation, in Dushanbe, reports IA “Dunyo” correspondent.

The parties discussed issues of further intensifying cooperation in political, trade, economic, investment, water and energy, transport, communication and cultural spheres, as well as interaction within the framework of international organizations such as the UN, OSCE, SCO, CIS, OIC, IFAS.

It was noted that thanks to the strong political will and support of the leaders of the two countries, in recent years, relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have risen to a qualitatively new level and have acquired a steadily growing character. There is an unprecedented growth in trade between the two countries, which amounted to $500 million in 2019.

It was emphasized that, despite the restrictive measures associated with the coronavirus pandemic, in January-July this year, the growth in trade was 7.5% ($255.4 million).

The ministers noted that the mutual support provided in the context of a pandemic testifies to friendship and close cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

The parties exchanged views on the course of preparation for the Third Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, which is scheduled to be held in Kyrgyzstan.
