The implementation of international human rights obligations discussed

A meeting of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held.

The participants considered the Law “On the ratification of the Protocol on introducing amendments to the Agreement on the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism and the Regulations on the procedure for forming and executing the budget of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (Tashkent, June 1, 2022)”.

It identifies the fight against financing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction as one of the main areas of activity of the Eurasian Group. The requirements and conditions of the budget of the Eurasian Group are also clarified, namely the contribution of member states, distribution of expenses, and other financial issues.

The senators noted that ratification of this law will serve to strengthen international cooperation in combating the financing of terrorism.

At the same time, at the meeting of the Committee, information from the Director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights on the state of compliance with international obligations in human rights in Uzbekistan was considered.

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) report for 2023 was also heard.

Following the meeting, the relevant decisions of the Committee were adopted.
