The newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator has taken up her duties in Uzbekistan

Yesterday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov received the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, Roli Asthana, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

According to Uzbekistan MFA, the congratulating Roli Asthana on her appointment, the Minister stressed that Uzbekistan has established constructive and trusting cooperation with the UN and its agencies. He expressed the hope that the professional achievements and work experience of the new Resident Coordinator will contribute to further deepening cooperation.

It was noted that in recent years, contacts between Uzbekistan and the UN have noticeably intensified, enriching with practical content. Uzbekistan has become an active participant in the process in all areas of the Organization’s activities. In 2018-2021, four resolutions of the General Assembly were approved on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Currently, 137 projects worth over $174 million are being implemented in Uzbekistan with the participation of UN agencies.

The prospects of deepening cooperation in such areas as regional security, stabilization and reconstruction of Afghanistan, combating modern threats and challenges, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, promoting socio-economic development, solving environmental problems, in particular, mitigating the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis were considered.
