The President of Uzbekistan and the UN Secretary-General discuss the priorities for further development of collaboration

On September 19, as part of participation in the general debates of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Secretary-General of the Organization, António Guterres, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

According to the press service of the Head of state, the prospects for further enhancing collaboration between Uzbekistan and the UN, primarily in implementing national tasks and goals in sustainable development, were discussed.

The achievement of an unprecedented high level of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN in recent years was noted with satisfaction. About 140 joint programs and projects are being successfully implemented. At the initiative of the Uzbek side, 6 resolutions of the UN General Assembly were adopted, and a Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region is operating.

Uzbekistan has been elected as a member of several authoritative UN structures and actively participates in their activities. Major international events with a global agenda are jointly held, particularly on ensuring food security, tourism development, combating poverty, and climate change.

António Guterres highly appreciated today’s speech by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the 78th session of the General Assembly, emphasizing support for the program of irreversible reforms in the country and the importance of the proposals and initiatives voiced for solving pressing global and regional problems.

The Secretary-General noted the scale of the goals and objectives of the new reform strategy “Uzbekistan – 2030” and its complete compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals. He expressed the readiness of the UN and all its institutions to assist in implementing this program document.

Following the talks, an agreement was reached on developing an action plan in priority areas for deepening a full-scale partnership between Uzbekistan and the UN.
