The President of Uzbekistan notes the progress in the process of joining the WTO

On the sidelines of the COP29 Climate Change Conference in Baku, in the National Pavilion of Uzbekistan, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Current aspects of strengthening practical interaction in matters of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO were discussed.

Satisfaction was expressed with the process of holding meetings of the Working Group and the dynamics of negotiations with member countries of this international organization.

Active work is underway to harmonize national legislation with the norms and rules of the WTO, including abolishing export subsidies.

Special attention was paid to improving Uzbekistan specialists’ qualifications in regulating international trade.

Views were exchanged on measures to support Uzbekistan’s efforts to complete negotiations and the country’s accession to the organization in the coming years.
