University of Geological Sciences – one of the foundations of the third Renaissance

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev gets acquainted with the construction and landscaping work carried out in the city of Tashkent.

The first place of the visit was the campus of the University of Geological Sciences in Mirzo Ulugbek district. The Head of the state on January 31 this year laid the foundation stone for construction of a new higher education institution. Today the work is in full swing.

The project provides for the construction of six and reconstruction of four multi-storey buildings. At the first stage, an educational building, buildings of the Institute of Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields, the Institute of Mineral Resources, the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, the Museum of Geology, as well as a library and a dormitory are being erected.

The President again arrived at the construction site and got acquainted with the construction work and further plans.

“Science is in our blood, in our genes. This university serves as one of the foundations of the third Renaissance”, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In his Address to the Oliy Majlis on January 24 this year and at the meeting with scientists on January 31, the Head of the state set urgent tasks for the development of geology. On this basis, a new system is being created in the country. Four resolutions of the President were adopted in this direction.

The University of Geological Sciences will lay the foundation for the restoration of the scientific potential of the industry and training modern personnel. It is formed on the basis of 4 research institutes, which were located separately. A single complex will ensure close cooperation of specialists, students undergo practical training in scientific laboratories, facilitate infrastructure maintenance and reduce costs.

Here the Head of the state talked with the heads of research institutes.

“Science is the fundamental basis for development of all areas. If we paid attention in a timely manner, we could provide employment for 15-20 percent of the population in all areas of geology. Now we are creating conditions for scientists to protect and support intellectual property. It benefits both its owner and the state”, the President said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev inquired about the conditions created here and emphasized that construction should be carried out with high quality, laboratories should be equipped with high technologies.

“It is necessary to approach this thoroughly, because we have high hopes for this university”, the Head of the state said.

Presentation of the second phase of the project took place here. At this stage, it is planned to build the buildings of the State Committee for Geology, Geological Information Center, Center for Geo-Innovative Technologies and a parking lot.
