Yesterday, a Joint Communiqué was signed in New York on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Somalia, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The document was signed on behalf of the governments of both countries by Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN, Ulugbek Lapasov, and Permanent Representative of Somalia to the UN, Abukar Dahir Osman.
The parties expressed mutual readiness to strengthen cooperation within international organizations, including the UN and its specialized agencies.
They agreed to intensify bilateral contacts to explore mutually beneficial areas of cooperation in the political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
The signing of this document marks an important step in enhancing Uzbekistan’s engagement with African countries.
To date, the Federal Republic of Somalia has become the 157th country with which Uzbekistan has established diplomatic relations.
It is worth noting that in 2024, Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations with 12 countries from Africa, America, and Europe.
