Uzbekistan, Norway cooperation prospects discussed

On January 22, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov has held virtual talks with the Director General of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) Bård Vegar Solhjell, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the UK Said Rustamov and the appointed Ambassador of Norway to Uzbekistan (with residence in Oslo) John Mikal Kvistad.

Taking into account the significant contribution of Oslo to the Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region, the Norwegian side was invited to become a member of the Advisory Committee on Sustainable Development of the Aral Sea region.

Norad Director General highly appreciated the process of reforms and positive changes in Uzbekistan, the country’s efforts to strengthen stability and good-neighborly relations in Central Asia. He highlighted Uzbekistan’s achievements in recent years in human rights, media freedom, and the development of civil society.

Noting the productive cooperation between Norway and Uzbekistan in overcoming the consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea, Bård Vegar Solhjell expressed his readiness for further cooperation to resolve this problem. The Norwegian side also intends to study the possibility of providing technical assistance to Uzbekistan in the implementation of other social projects in the country.
