Uzbekistan's Deputy PM meets with Acting Head of the Provisional Government of Afghanistan

On February 22, during a short stop in Kabul, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with the Acting Head of the Provisional Government of Afghanistan, Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund. The parties discussed the development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

According to Uzbekistan MIFT, during the talks, the parties voiced mutual interest in the comprehensive expansion of the partnership. The current tasks to enhance collaboration in trade, economic, energy, transport and logistics, cultural and humanitarian spheres were considered.

Further steps were outlined to resume cooperation to ensure food security, accelerate the resumption of economic activity and maintain sustainable peace in Afghanistan.

The main attention was paid to further steps to promote the implementation of the project for the construction of the trans-Afghan railway corridor “Termez – Mazar-i-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar”, as well as the project for the construction of the power line “Surkhon – Puli-Khumri”. The Afghan side expressed readiness to continue cooperation in this direction and active participation in the practical implementation of projects.

Gratitude was also expressed to Uzbekistan for the ongoing efforts to restore the activities of the international airport in Mazar-i-Sharif and organized courses for training technical personnel from among local specialists.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to develop a dialogue to accelerate the resolution of all issues related to further deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
