Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister meets with the First Vice President and Head of the Administration of the President of Afghanistan

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov has met with the First Vice President of Afghanistan, Amrullah Saleh, and Head of the Administration of the President, Mohammad Shaker Kargar, reports IA “Dunyo” correspondent.

According to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, the meeting discussed issues of interaction to minimize the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on development of economic relations between the two countries, as well as the prospects for enhancing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan in many priority areas. The Afghan side expressed its readiness to provide effective support to the initiatives of Uzbekistan aimed at developing regional cooperation and ensuring stability.

The parties also discussed the possibilities for the implementation of new joint projects for the construction of road and rail infrastructure, creation of logistics complexes and capacities for storing fruit and vegetables, as well as modernization of customs complexes.

Further tasks to enhance cooperation were identified during the talks with the Head of the Administration of the President of Afghanistan. Mutual readiness to continue active work on the implementation of agreements and the development of mutually acceptable solutions on existing issues was emphasized.

In particular, the parties positively noted the progress in cooperation in the field of education and the importance of further development of cooperation between higher education institutions of the two countries. An agreement was reached to speed up the joint preparation of a Memorandum between the ministries of higher education of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, which provides for sending Afghan students to study in higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan.

Following the meetings, further steps were agreed upon within the framework of bilateral cooperation aimed at accelerated socio-economic development of bоth countries.
