Uzbekistan, Turkey strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairperson of the Gender Equality Commission Tanzila Narbayeva met with a delegation led by the Chairperson of the Committee on Equality of Opportunity for Women and Men of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Fatma Aksal, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.

Mrs. Tanzila Narbayeva touched upon the fundamental political and socio-economic reforms carried out in Uzbekistan, as well as work to ensure gender equality, noting that in recent years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and Turkey in all areas, including between parliaments, has reached a new level.

The parties discussed the state and prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and exchanged views on the issues of ensuring gender equality and protecting the interests of women.

Mrs. Fatma Aksal noted that Uzbekistan is achieving great success, fraternal ties between the two states are further strengthening, and stressed that today Uzbekistan and Turkey are reliable strategic partners.

“I am glad that after my appointment, Uzbekistan became the country of my first visit”, Mrs. Fatma Aksal said. – Here we have witnessed the achievement of significant results in ensuring gender equality in a short time. We have studied the experience in this area and plan to promote it in our country. The work carried out in your country to protect the rights of women, increase their socio-political activity, provide employment, and involve them in entrepreneurship deserves a high appraisal.

An agreement was reached to enhance effective collaboration through the implementation of joint projects and programs to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, investment and other areas, establish interaction in priority areas for both countries, including the realization of women’s economic opportunities, establish direct links between regions of countries.

The Turkish delegation also met with representatives of several structures of the Legislative Chamber, including the Committee on International Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations, the Commission on Family and Women, the leadership of the inter-parliamentary group “Uzbekistan – Turkey” and the Ombudsman.
