The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili.

Zurab Pololikashvili highly appreciated the systemic measures on improving the sectoral infrastructure, preserving and reconstructing historical sights, and creating favorable conditions for travelers.

The UNWTO Secretary-General considers Uzbekistan as one of its leading partners and is ready for all-round intensification of ties with the country. The organization highly appreciates Uzbekistan’s role in strengthening international cooperation in tourism, recognizing the importance of the work carried out by the country to revive the Great Silk Road, stimulating regional tourism in Central Asia, increasing mutual tourist flows through the development of regional tour packages and the formation of cross-border routes.

The main attention was paid to interaction in education. Proposals were considered to transform the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism in Samarkand into a regional center for training specialists in tourism, to hold a forum of rectors of tourism universities of UNWTO member countries, to create a network of research institutions together with UNWTO.

The parties considered the organizational aspects of preparations for the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in 2023 in Samarkand.
