At the initiative of the Cambridge Forum for Central Asia (CFCA) and the Center for the Study of Development Issues (CSDI) under the University of Cambridge held a lecture on "Achievements and prospects of political and economic modernization in Uzbekistan" for students and teachers of the educational institution.
The event was organized as part of the research program "Social and political development in Central Asia", aimed at informing a wide range of scholars and students of Great Britain and other Western countries on the historical and cultural heritage and development of the peoples of the region today.
Lecture opened a series of similar events scheduled for the current year, which are aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of the processes taking place in Central Asia and the strengthening of bilateral relations in the sphere of education and science.
During the event, participants learned about the British with five basic principles of the Uzbek model of development, laid the basis for large-scale successive reforms in the socio-political and socio-economic spheres. They were informed about the stages of nation-building since independence, key areas of the Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and formation of civil society in the country, launched by President Islam Karimov in November 2010.
Particular attention of the audience was drawn to the value planned for March 2015 presidential elections in the Republic of Uzbekistan for a sustainable and consistent development of the country. Information was provided about the preparation for this important political event in the life of the state, in particular, the nomination of the four parties in the country of their candidates for the top job. A detailed explanation of the process of nomination and approval of candidates, creating constituencies and regions, informing the public and the international community about the election campaign.
The lecture was also discussed about the outcome of the December 2014 parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan held in conditions of changes and amendments to the Constitution of the country, priorities of the new members of the Houses of Parliament.
After the lecture was held a discussion session, during which the audience got answers to their questions.
