AFC Asian Cup 2019 to be held in the UAE

Asian Cup 2019 will be held in the United Arab Emirates. This was reported by the Asian Football Confederation. Note that in addition to the UAE, contender for the tournament was Iran.

Recall that earlier the AFC has approved the date of the draw of the combined 2nd preliminary round of the 2018 World Cup and the Asian Cup 2019. According to the decision of the AFC, the draw will take place on April 14, 2015 in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. It will begin at 15:00 local time (12:00 Tashkent), reported IA UzReport.

On the basis of indicators in the FIFA rankings, 34 national teams automatically qualified for the second qualifying round. They are: Iran, Japan, South Korea, Uzbekistan, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, China, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Kuwait, the Philippines, the Maldives, Vietnam, Tajikistan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, North Korea, Syria, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Guam, and Bangladesh.

In the second round, another six teams that will be able to pass the first qualifying round will join the 34 teams. A pair of first preliminary round is as follows: India - Nepal, Yemen - Pakistan, East Timor - Mongolia, Cambodia - Macao, Chinese Taipei - Brunei and Sri Lanka - Bhutan. The winners of the pairs will be determined till March 17.

40 national teams of the second qualifying round will be divided into 8 groups (5 teams in each group). Matches of the group stage of the competition will be held in a circular format. The second qualifying round of the 2018 World Cup will be held from June 11, 2015 to March 29, 2016.

The group winners and 4 teams with the best performance among the second teams in all groups (a total of 12 teams) will be entitled to participate in the finals of the Asian Cup 2019 and simultaneously makes it into the final qualifying round of the world Cup 2018.

The rest of the best 24 teams of the second combined qualifying round will compete in a separate competition for 12 (or 11+1 place for owners) remaining places on the 2019 Asian Cup.
