Alley of Litterateurs opens in Tashkent

On May 20, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Alley of Litterateurs created at Alisher Navoi National Park.

Plans on creating the alley were announced on February 3, 2017 during the President’s visit to the park. On April 18, 2017, corresponding resolution of the President was adopted and architectural-ideological project of the alley was developed.

Over the past period, construction and landscaping activities were carried out, and a single architectural ensemble of the Alley of Litterateurs was created on an area of more than 8 hectares.

There were monuments to only a few writers here. It seemed that there were no creative talents in Uzbekistan after Alisher Navoi.

Therefore, monuments were erected to such outstanding writers as Babur, Ogahi, Berdakh, Mukimi, Furkat, Behbudi, Avloni, Chulpan, Kadiri, Tolepbergen Kayipbergenov, Ibrahim Yusupov, Alexander Feinberg to further enrich the ideological and artistic content of the Alley of Litterateurs.

Monuments to more than 20 famous poets and writers have been erected around the majestic statue of our great ancestor Alisher Navoi in a single architectural and artistic composition. Writers’ Union’s building was also built here, which fit into the ensemble.

Today, the Head of the state visited the park and laid flowers at the monument to Alisher Navoi and became familiar with activities and conditions created in the alley.

Attention paid to development of national literature in recent years and further important tasks were discussed at the meeting with writers and poets, creative intelligentsia.

“Literature is a soul of people, mirror of their spirituality. In a modern society, it is necessary to use the influential power of prose and poetry to reach into the hearts of people and inspire them to noble goals. We will create all conditions for studying the heritage of our ancestors, creating great literature worthy of our glorious culture”, says Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It was emphasized that works of our classics are constantly published in the country. Now the world should know about them. For example, Alisher Navoi, Mirzo Babur, Abdulla Kadiri, Chulpan’s works are published in foreign languages. But this is due to translators’ personal initiative and efforts.

It was noted that the initiative in this direction should be taken by Writers’ Union together with Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature, to organize translation and publication of best examples of Uzbek literature in different languages.

Recommendations were given to turn the Alley of Litterateurs into a Center of Culture, Spirituality and Education for all our people, especially youth, to hold poetry evenings, book presentations, exhibitions and educational events here. The importance of studying the work of classics, publishing books and making films about their exemplary life was noted.

“We often talk about heroes of our time. Today they are our dedicated doctors fighting the coronavirus, brave military men, generous entrepreneurs and patriotic young people. It will be interesting to read about their exploits”, says Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It was noted that today’s youth use Internet and electronic literature more, but the promotion of our national literature on the Internet is not organized well enough.

In this regard, the President proposed to create the Alley of Litterateurs Internet Portal.

This source will contain electronic copies of works of classical and modern literature, master classes of writers and literary critics. There will be separate sections dedicated to each of writers and poets whose monuments are installed in the Alley of Writers. The portal will be available in Uzbek, English and Russian, which will allow foreign literature lovers and experts to use it.

Presentations of higher education institutions about their research on creative work of writers were held. The Head of the state also got acquainted with the library erected next to the alley.
