Ambassador of Uzbekistan presents credentials to the Co-Prince of Andorra, Bishop of Urgell

The new Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Andorra, based in Madrid, Farrukh Tursunov, presented his credentials to the Co-Prince of Andorra, Bishop of Urgell Joan-Enric Vives i Sicília, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Following the ceremony, a conversation took place, during which the Bishop of Urgell warmly welcomed the Ambassador and expressed great interest and sympathy for the ongoing transformation processes in Uzbekistan. He highly praised the wise and forward-looking policies of the Uzbekistan’s leadership aimed at ensuring peace, stability, and international dialogue, especially in the current challenging geopolitical conditions.
The Co-Prince emphasized that Uzbekistan demonstrates successful examples of interethnic and interfaith harmony, being home to over 130 nations and ethnic groups, as well as more than 2,000 religious organizations coexisting in an atmosphere of peace and mutual respect. He also noted the social focus of Uzbekistan’s state policies and the active role the country plays in international affairs.
It was noted that further highlighted that despite Andorra’s small size, the country attaches great importance to developing relations with Uzbekistan, considering it an important and respected partner. The Bishop remarked on Uzbekistan’s economic performance, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the country demonstrated resilient growth and emerged from the crisis with positive indicators, a result of effective reforms.
Regarding Uzbekistan’s tourism potential, Bishop Vives i Sicília spoke with admiration of Samarkand, calling it a great historical city and a symbol of the cultural heritage of all Central Asia. He expressed a desire to visit Uzbekistan in the future and noted that the youth of Andorra are increasingly interested in countries with a rich history and culture, with Uzbekistan holding a special place among such destinations.
At the end of the meeting, both parties confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and Andorra in various fields, including culture, tourism, and international dialogue.
Uzbekistan and Andorra established diplomatic relations on December 1, 2009.
It is worth noting that in April 2024, Ambassador Farrukh Tursunov presented his credentials to King Felipe VI of Spain.
On March 11, 2025, the Ambassador also presented his credentials to the Co-Prince of Andorra, President of France Emmanuel Macron, and on March 15, 2025, he handed over copies of his credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra, Maria Imma Tor Faús.
