Alisher Kayumov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Australia, resident in Singapore, presented his credentials to Samantha Mostyn, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, on 27 November, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Following the official credentialing ceremony, a detailed discussion was held on the current state and future prospects of Uzbekistan–Australia relations. Both parties highlighted the steady development of bilateral ties in recent years across political, trade and economic, scientific, educational, and other sectors.
Governor-General Samantha Mostyn lauded the comprehensive reforms implemented under the leadership of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan, noting the significant achievements in modernizing public administration, advancing civil society, and creating a favorable investment climate for international business.
The discussion highlighted the similarities between the economies of Australia and Uzbekistan, including the significant role of the cotton and mining sectors, which open broad prospects for mutual cooperation in innovation and investment. Noting the successful recent session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, Governor-General Samantha Mostyn welcomed Uzbekistan’s growing appeal as a destination for Australian tourists.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Australia’s Governor-General expressed her readiness to further strengthen bilateral relations and conveyed her sincere regards to the leadership and people of Uzbekistan.
It is recalled that Alisher Kayumov arrived in Singapore in mid-March 2024, succeeding Kakhramon Shakirov, who had been accredited as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Singapore (2018–2024) and concurrently to Australia (2022–2024), with residence in Singapore. On 30 April 2024, Alisher Kayumov presented his credentials to the President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
