Regional stages of the traditional review contest ‘The exemplary citizens’ self-governing body’ are taking place all around in the country.
In recent years its prestige significantly increased, as well as participants grow in number, because the contest get involved almost all of the 10,000 citizens’ self-governing bodies of the country determining the best on all levels - fr om the district to the republican. This creative contest brings out the positive experience in the work of mahallas, the modern methods used by activists, to disseminate them, and to boost creative approach to the trade.
Thirteen teams have competed in the regional stage in Bukhara. The experience of the work they demonstrated on the slides, while their knowledge, outlook, awareness of legislation in this field, and ability to find solutions to everyday situations, were assessed by answering questions. The activists of Hatcha mahalla in Gijduvon district won the regional stage.
“Three thousand people live in our community,” says the head of the citizens’ assembly, Husan Hosilov. “Family problems and various situations we solve together with the public and government organizations. Therefore, social and spiritual atmosphere in our mahalla is stable.
The exhibition of products of craftsmen and entrepreneurs was organized within the event, which acquainted all visitors with the activities of self-governing bodies in the sphere of small business, and addressing the population employment issues.
The regional stage of the review-contest in Nukus has been held in the friendly spirit. Fifteen winners of district and city stages demonstrated the role of citizens’ self-governing bodies in improving living standards, the implementation of targeted programs to support vulnerable social groups, the improvement of territories, strengthening moral and spiritual atmosphere in the communities, and upbringing the younger generation.
The contenders told about their mahallas, cultural and enlightening events, as well as charity actions they organize within the ‘Year of Healthy Mother and Child’ State Program. The jury, first of all, assessed the ability to find the right solution in a given situation, thorough knowledge of the legal framework, and contribution of citizens’ assemblies in community development.
“Today, about two thousand people work in the citizens’ assemblies of the northern region of the country,” the executive secretary of the Karakalpak branch of the Mahalla Fund, M. Palymbetov, said. “Active and energetic young people work along with the older experienced generation.”
The citizens’ assembly of Karakalpakstan settlement in Kungrad district showed the best result.
“In our presentation, we tried to talk about all aspects of the work of our mahalla, paying attention to the implementation of the State Program, and preparations to celebrate the 25th anniversary of independence,” the chair of the citizens’ assembly K. Koshimbetova said. “Particular emphasis we placed on cooperation with government and public organizations.”
The lobby of the Surkhandarya Regional Mannon Uyghur Music and Drama Theater, wh ere the regional stage of the contest has been held, served the venue for the exhibition of products of private and family businesses of mahallas. National embroidery, wood carving, ceramics, products of bakers, as well as gifts of generous Uzbek land - all that testified to the fact that the citizens’ assemblies became the centers of handicrafts, farming and entrepreneurship.
Performances of 14 teams were considered through the prism of the efficiency and targeting of measures on social protection of the population, upbringing of the younger generation, crime prevention, and development of entrepreneurship. The winner was the citizen’s assembly activists of Bahor mahalla in Sherobod district.
In the review-contest in Khorazm region the best was the citizens’ assembly of Do’stlik mahalla of Shovot district. The participants tried to reflect the great creative work in the communities, aimed at improving the level and quality of living.
“The review-contest turned a demonstration of best experience of the work of self-governing bodies,” the chairman of Toza Durmon mahalla in Yangibozor district, Sh. Jumaniyozov, emphasized. “It was especially useful to know, how other citizens’ assemblies provide the population employment, first of all, of the graduates of colleges, and their methods of developing family and private business.”
Winners in the regions will participate in the republican stage of the contest.
