COOPERATION COUNCIL "UZBEKISTAN - EUROPEAN UNION"

On May 18, 2015 the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov took part in the 12th meeting of the Cooperation Council "Uzbekistan - European Union" in Brussels.

The EU delegation was headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Presidency of the European Union the Republic of Latvia Edgars Rinkevichs. At the meeting discussed the state and prospects of bilateral relations in political, trade-economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres, as well as in the format "Central Asia - the EU".

The sides also exchanged views on major international and regional issues including the situation in Afghanistan.
An open and constructive dialogue, as noted at the meeting, allowed to reach an understanding on a range of topics discussed and to identify priority areas for further development of cooperation.

During the meeting the head of the Uzbek delegation and director of the Inter-Regional Research Institute of the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice (UNICRI), Jonathan Lucas signed the Memorandum on the establishment and functioning of the Secretariat in Tashkent Regional centers of excellence for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials for Central Asia, the implementation of which will be initiated and financed by the European Union.
