DISPLAY OF DIVERSE CERAMICS IN TASHKENT

The Gallery of Fine Arts in the capital is hosting the second exhibition of ‘Guardians of Traditions. Ceramics of Uzbekistan’, which presented all the beauty and diversity of Uzbekistan’s ceramic arts.

One of the halls is displaying the ceramics of the Farghona Valley. Except the works of two artisans, all the art pieces were made by the masters of the well-known Rishton School of Ceramics.

Portrait of Ibrohim Komilov decorates the center of the exhibition, one of the best representatives of this school of ceramics of the 20th century. He made the ceramic products the region’s brand, and restored the alkaline ceramics. The works of the master of the 16th generation Mirzabahrom Abduvahobov from Andijon and the sole representative of the Gurumsaroy School of Ceramics Vakhob Buvaev are also put on display.

The second hall attracts the attention of visitors with the installation of Bobur Ismailov. The master puts the finished ceramic products inside the tandir, which are illuminated as if they are freshly made; next to it the master puts a basket of flat breads, spices, everything that happens to be on dastarkhan (table).

One of the halls is also displaying the portrait of Ibadullo Narzullaev from Ghijduvon. He is father of the two Narzullaev brothers whose products are also represented in the exhibition. It is said that he once came in the Academy of Fine Arts with his products, and asked to give him a document confirming that he is the master, without which he was not allowed to put his products for sale. Narzullaev brothers to date not only preserved the school, but developed it giving a new breath.

Abduvohid Karimov from Bukhara also recreates the tradition of ceramic arts of the region.

The exhibition is held for the second time. Among the participants there are two masters, who last year could not participate in it. One of them is the academician Sharif Azimov. It is barely possible to find such ceramist as him. He restores the methods of production of ceramics of the Kushan period. His pitchers and vases originate from past centuries, but made in the interpretation of the master. All items of his collection are exquisite and subtle.

This year novice is the young master from Karshi, Erkin Rakhmatov. He represents unconventional ceramic articles, which draw the attention of the many.

The exhibition is complemented by a small photo report and traditional textiles of the represented regions. Potter’s wheels installed in the center of the exhibition hall are used by the ceramists to conduct master classes for all comers.
