Domestic-Market-Bound Quality Goods

More than 5.1 thousand tons of high-quality and inexpensive fish products is intended to produce this season in the Surkhandarya region.

Special significance is attached in Uzbekistan’s southernmost province to the growth of fish production, introduction of intensive technologies, provision of comprehensive support for fish farms, and the consolidation of their financial and technological capacities.

As reported by the regional association Surkhondaryobaliqsanoat, 2,527 tons of fish will be produced this season in the artificial reservoirs of 230 fish farms, and 1,453 tons in seven fish farms. Two fish farms operating on the basis of Vietnamese technology are planning to harvest 600 tons of fish products in water bodies, as well as 220 tons of fish in 570 hectares of rice fields.

“To meet the demand of the population in inexpensive, quality fish products, each district has developed its own special program,” says deputy director of the association F.Sattarov. “We organized a working group, conducted a stocktaking survey of fish farms on the ground. Proposals from enterprising people for fish farming are currently being studied. In accordance with the program, new artificial lakes with the area of 470 hectares will be created this year in the region. To date, 33.8 hectares have been allocated for this purpose in Jarkurgan district, 18.1 hectares in Muzrabad, 10.6 hectares in Shurchi, and 6.5 hectares in the Kyzyryk district. Attention is paid also in other areas to the creation of artificial lakes. Measures are being taken to rationally use water resources in this process.”

In the region, hatchery shops are also organized, and work is underway to produce fish fry. An incubation workshop with a capacity of 50 million fingerlings is being built in LLC “Surkhon Agro Fishprom”. Following the reconstruction, an incubation shop was put into operation for 50 million fry in the “Karp Khavzasi”.

According to available data, in the current season, natural water bodies will be provided with 510 thousand fry. Over the past period, fries have been released into water bodies with an area of more than 3 thousand hectares, and about 2,000 hectares have been fished for more than 2 million fry.

Construction around the lakes of reproductive pools for fry breeding, work on securing financial support for new projects will contribute to the recovery of the fishing industry in the region, providing the population with inexpensive, high-quality, dietary goods.
