— A report on the activities of the Environmental Movement of Uzbekistan and its deputy group in the lower house of parliament was heard at the extended meeting of the Parliamentary Commission for the management of the public fund’s funds to support NGOs and other civil society institutions under the Oliy Majlis.
It notes that the activities of the Ecological Movement are aimed at improving environmental legislation, protecting the environment and public health, and rational use of natural resources.
During the reporting period - from May 2016 to April 2017 - more than 1300 different events were carried out in which over 101 thousand activists, representatives of state and public organizations, citizens’ self-government bodies, educational institutions took part.
Eight draft laws were prepared by the members of the Eco-movement’s deputy group together with the Committee for ecological issues and environmental protection of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. The new edition of the laws "On the protection and use of wildlife" and "On the protection and use of flora" were adopted.
Currently, the deputy group is actively working on the laws "On renewable energy sources", "On waste" and others.
Hundreds of events were organized in the center and in places to increase the responsibility of state and public organizations, business entities for the realization of the adopted documents on environmental protection and the targeted use of resources allocated for this purpose.
In order to realize the program task to enhance the environmental awareness of the population, the advancement of the environmental education system, consistent work was carried out aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, enhancing the role of environmental knowledge.
In the course of events carried out with participation of international organizations, there was discussed the priority areas of cooperation, including the solution of social and economic problems in the zone of the Aral Sea area. The conduct of an international roundtable on the development of renewable energy sources on June of the last year in Tashkent caused a wide resonance. The opening of an information and resource center in Namangan in August 2016 which was established jointly with the OSCE Mission in Uzbekistan became another significant event.
At the meeting, special attention was placed on the work of the hotline of the Ecological Movement. During the year, about 500 appeals of citizens were received there, most of which found a positive solution. And according to the signals about violations of environmental and sanitary standards, more than 100 ecological raids were conducted. Since 2017, the "hot line" was transformed into the people’s reception.
