One of the priorities in all sectors of the national economy of Uzbekistan is an effective and economical use of energy resources.
Particular attention is paid to areas such as the replacement of physically and morally outdated production capacities in energy-saving technologies, as well as exclusive use of the implementation of new projects, introduction of electric and gas-saving equipment in the production, reasonable use of the available raw materials, as well as promotion of recycling projects, widespread use of alternative energy sources in the main and auxiliary facilities.
According to the Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan, leading international organizations such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, International Finance Corporation, United Nations Development Programme, as well as other countries’ governments also pay special attention to the implementation of the above-mentioned measures in Uzbekistan.
A striking example of this is the financial mechanism established under a joint project of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the World Bank, through which the first line of credit was financed 31 projects amounting to 32 million USD, 24 million of which have been allocated by the International Development Association. Loans received projects of energy-intensive industries like mining, chemical, oil and gas, processing and power generation. Their implementation will provide savings of more than 152 million kW/h of electricity and natural gas at a rate of 40 million cubic meters.
Today a joint initiative of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the World Bank implemented 76 projects, resulting in the expected energy savings in the amount of 547 million kW/h of natural gas - 214 million cubic meters.
