ENI FALEOMAVAEGA: PEOPLE OF UZBEKISTAN WILL ALWAYS OCCUPY A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART

In connection with the celebration of the anniversary of our country’s independence most prominent public figures and foreign experts continue to send sincere congratulations on the occasion of this remarkable date.

For example, Eni Faleomavaega, former Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and the Global Environment of the US Congress, in his message said that he celebrates the 24th anniversary of the state independence of Uzbekistan in a special manner.

— As a Congressman, I made several visits to the republic. Our subcommittee was in charge of US policy toward Central Asia. This allowed me to directly observe the development and progress of your country, which are of great historical importance. The people of Uzbekistan will always occupy a special place in my heart.

I admire the consistent policy of Uzbekistan’s leadership, particularly in the building of a democratic state. Legislative activity in this area along with the adoption of a number of laws to ensure the effective functioning of public associations, foundations, trade unions, non-government non-profit organizations deserves special attention.

In July, round table in Uzbekistan, devoted to discussion of the role of the private sector institutions in democratic renewal and modernization of the country with special emphasis on the experience of your country. This event underlines the importance attached by the government, to ensuring the development of an independent civil society institutions, to enhance their involvement in the process of democratic transformation.

I urge the United States to contribute to the deepening of political, social and economic ties with Uzbekistan.
