First-ever Artists' Festival set to take place in Babur City in May

Uzbekistan will hold a biennial festival for visual artists, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The Regulation on the Organisation and Conduct of the Artists’ Festival in the city of Babur, Andijan Region, has been approved by the Government of Uzbekistan.

According to the document, starting in 2026, the festival will take place once every two years, traditionally in May.

Artists wishing to participate must submit, by February 1 of the festival year, a curriculum vitae, three colour photographs (6×9 cm), copies of certificates and diplomas confirming participation in previous exhibitions or festivals, as well as at least ten high-quality images of their own artworks and a video demonstrating the creation process.

The Organising Committee will finalise the list of participants by April 1 and notify the selected artists.

The festival will award prizes in the following categories:

“Grand Prix”

“Best Painter”

“Best Sculptor”

“Best Photographer”

“Best Graphic Artist”

Winners of the festival will receive Uzbek-made passenger vehicles - such as the Chevrolet Onix or cars of equivalent class - as a gift from the President of Uzbekistan. In addition, laureates will be awarded diplomas, symbolic festival statuettes, and monetary prizes.

The city of Babur is a newly constructed settlement in Andijan Region, named after the renowned poet Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, a native of Andijan. The city was established on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his visit to the region in April 2025.
