The implementation of energy saving technologies and systems are considered as one of the priority directions in the development of branches of economy and social sphere. Organizational-technical measures and sectoral energy saving programmes are currently being developed on saving fuel and energy resources.
On March 4, 2016, the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution "On additional measures for the modernization of outdoor lighting systems in regional centers and cities".
This resolution approved a Programme of measures for the modernization of outdoor lighting systems in 2016-2019. The program provides for the implementation of the priority areas to further reduce energy intensity, implementation of energy saving technologies and systems in the field of outdoor lighting and the optimization of schemes for the lighting of streets of cities of the Republic.
Outdoor lighting systems operating as of today in several cities of the Republic are financially and morally worn-out and need modernization. According to preliminary data, 82883 street lamps located at an area stretching 2779.2 km are considered as worn-out.
The above Programme provides for the modernization of outdoor lighting systems in cities of the Republic until 2020 through replacing existing energy-intensive lamps with modern energy-efficient lighting devices based on led technology.
The total cost of the projects on modernization of outdoor lighting systems in 28 cities, implemented at the expense of the State budget is 84.8 billion soums (in 2017 – some 24 billion soums).
